Guess who’s back; you may have heard.

As I’ve been stepping back into the New (Old) Rustici Office and getting reacquainted with old friends, I’ve been able to reflect on all the ways things feel different, and most importantly, why the coffee maker is on the wrong other side of the office now.

Some things, however, feel remarkably similar. Especially how we evolve our products.

Keeping up with our customers

We’ve served the eLearning industry since 2002. In 2009, we released the SCORM Cloud API. For the first time, our customers could integrate our SCORM, AICC, and LTI support via a web API. At the time, this was a major departure from the days of DLL and JAR files, but it reflected the broader shift in the software industry and, most importantly, meant offloading content hosting and delivery to us in a way customers never could before.

Over the years, we’ve continued to evolve and improve our software to ensure we’re never the part of our customers’ technology stack that slows them down. Our integration API was migrated to a REST API and mirrored across our SaaS (SCORM Cloud), on-premises (Rustici Engine), and a privately hosted environment (Managed Hosted Engine). Our hosted Engine product opened the door to new deployment opportunities for our customers and enabled our customers to use a single API family regardless of how they use our products.

Since then, we’ve added support for more standards, supported the development of new eLearning standards, helped our customers convert or track non-eLearning content, provided tools for content distributors to better manage and license their course library through the release of our Content Controller product, helped some of the largest organizations in the world roll out massively complex internal training programs, and so many other things.

All of these changes come from constantly asking ourselves, “What do our customers need; how can we provide them a way to achieve their goals?” coupled with “Where is technology going; how do we make sure our technology never slows down our customers?”

We’ve been watching the state of technology, AI, and the places our customers want to go next, and we’re excited. We’re seeing brand new answers to the questions we’ve always asked ourselves.

Same questions, new tech, better answers

Today we’re announcing how those new answers will start appearing in our products.

First, our Rustici Generator product, designed to extract text from eLearning courses like SCORM to provide context and discoverability tools for AI and training platforms alike, will offer integration options via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) by the end of Q3 2026. This won’t replace the API options we provide today, but it will add a new option to make it even easier for people to use the Rustici Generator with AI chatbots, agents, and other RAG workflows. MCP has quickly become the de facto way for LLMs to access data and tools from third-party systems and will be pivotal in agent-to-agent communication as it grows.

Next, we are working on alpha prototypes that explore new ways our customers can get more out of our tools, such as Rustici Engine and Content Controller. These prototypes go beyond staying current with the latest technologies and directly address how these new technologies expand the ways we can serve you.

If you’re a customer and you’d like to see these early prototypes, please register now and join us at Rustici: The Gathering, our annual user conference. We’ll be talking more about the early work we’re doing and how we’re bringing AI to our products in ways that solve immediate pain points and enable our customers to bring new AI-driven functionality to market, both internally and externally. Some of the alpha concepts you can expect to hear and see are features like advanced tutors, admin assistance, content insights, and many more

If you can’t make it to the conference and you’re already a customer, reach out to your Customer Success Manager (CSM) to schedule a private demo in the next few months and ensure your feedback is part of the process.

I’m excited to share what we’ve got going on, reconnect with those of you I already know, and get to know those I don’t.
