We’re excited to announce Rustici Generator 2.0 is here with MCP support, plus new parsing improvements! This new update is the piece that makes connecting course data to the AI you’re building in your applications effortless. Not only does this open the door to simple agentic and RAG workflows based on your learning catalog, but this lets your team focus on innovation while Rustici Generator handles the infrastructure. Let’s get into what this looks like with Rustici Generator 2.0.
Providing core infrastructure to power your ecosystem
Modern AI solutions require clean, understandable, and organized data so they use it properly and provide relevant outputs. And for most of us in eLearning, our courses and content are our data. For a lot of people, this can mean getting AI to understand what’s in a SCORM course, video or even PDF. This work can be costly, require domain expertise, and ultimately pull your teams away from your most important work. That’s the gap Rustici Generator can help close, and now with the addition of MCP support as a way of letting AI agents consume that data, we’ve made it even simpler.
If you’re not necessarily sure what MCP is or why it matters, here’s the short version.
With Generator and added MCP support, your AI agents can now access Rustici Generator’s content text extraction and semantic search tools directly. This removes the need for your team to build course parsing tools, stand up vector databases, build and maintain embeddings, wire up custom API connections to your agents and manage enterprise-grade security for yet another service. Plus, this immediately allows for Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) support in your connected agents.
Parsing that keeps getting better
MCP isn’t the only thing that we’ve been cooking up. Getting a clean, accurate extraction from a standards-based course package, like SCORM or cmi5, has never been simple. If you rush it, you’ll get subpar results like missing text or metadata, improperly structured text, or no output at all. That’s why we’ve kept refining the methodical and deterministic approach we take to pulling text, metadata and assets out of course content.
Rustici Generator has carried that work forward with meaningful improvements in parsing across many of our existing supported authoring tools that we aim to continuously improve, plus new support for:
More parsers mean more of your content library becomes something an AI agent can actually see inside, not just a file it knows exists.
Where we’re headed next
MCP in Rustici Generator is just the next stop for us. We’re actively exploring what this could mean across the rest of our product suite — SCORM Cloud, Content Controller, Rustici Engine — and thinking about a future where AI agents can help make your full vision for your learning content and experiences a reality.
If you want to see this in action, you can register and download our latest webinar in our Rustici Generator showcase series. Stephen Kalnoske, Principal Engineer at Rustici Software, went over what integrating with an MCP server looks like and what it immediately enables.
