When was the last time you bought something a little extravagant for yourself? For me, that was an infrared sauna blanket, and I can’t really say it was extravagant as it doesn’t have any bells and whistles. I, myself, don’t often go for the newest or fanciest name brand. But when I do (cough, Dyson, cough), it’s an extra special treat. And I’m probably not alone in that thinking.
If you’ve followed Rustici for a while, you may have heard us talk about our “Jenafits” program. Named after the office manager who helped create the perk, Jenafits are designed as a little quarterly bonus to help with either the expenses no one enjoys paying for or to splurge a little. One of the more recent additions is a luxury item of the quarter. We’ve had a number of Dyson tools, a killer robot vacuum and some particularly nerdy items (we aren’t just standards nerds). Chosen by our office manager and employees, the luxury items are often things people really want but are unlikely to buy for themselves.
If surprising your fellow coworkers or employees with a treat is something you’ve been exploring as an idea, here are some of our most popular Jenafits options from last year.
Luxury items:
- Fly me to the moon – Southwest, AirBNB, Disney and more travel gift card options had a lot of us wanting to get away.
- Away Luggage – and needed something to carry the essentials.
- You Need a Budget subscription – to help plan for the big trip.
- Dyson anything – hair dryers and vacuums were very appreciated.
- 3D printer – those who picked the printer absolutely loved it and we enjoy seeing their creations.
- Lego subscriptions – a favorite for Rusticians and their little ones.
- Massage memberships – perfect for achy shoulders and treating migraines.
Ongoing options:
- Subscriptions – Netflix, Hulu, Spotify and more, it’s always nice to have these monthly expenses paid for.
- Food delivery – Porter Road, Goldbelly, Home Chef and other popular delivery services
- Gym memberships and at-home gym reimbursements
- Home office upgrade reimbursements.
- Learn something new (that’s not necessarily work related).
And the number one perennial favorite: House cleaning. That one speaks for itself.
Most important to remember, it doesn’t take a Dyson-level gesture to make someone feel appreciated and included. A little handwritten note of encouragement or the gift of a meal during rough times or celebrating successes goes a long way to helping someone feel like they are a valued team member. Not only will they feel like they’re part of a great company culture and more likely to stay, they’ll pay that appreciation forward to your customers as well as actively recruit others to join your organization.
