It’s that time of year again when most people in the U.S. are out shopping and preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Me? I’m gearing up to help our team leave for I/ITSEC 2023 next week. This is the second time Rustici Software has had a tutorial accepted, and I’m excited that Brian Miller will once again be sharing an introduction to cmi5.
Held annually and organized by the NTSA, I/ITSEC 2023 showcases simulation, education, modeling and training technology for the exchange of information. It’s a massive event with everything from learning standards professionals to creators of large flight simulators all under one (gigantic) convention roof.
What sessions we’re excited to see:
Modernize Your Training by Migrating Legacy SCORM Content to cmi5 (Managing Learning Data – xAPI Essentials and Strategies track)
Brian J. Miller, Rustici Software
Monday, Nov. 27 | 8:30-10AM EST
The cmi5 specification plays an important role in the DoD’s learning modernization, facilitating progress in migrating from SCORM-based LMS-centric courseware to a distributed learning “ecosystem” that delivers diverse learning opportunities across federated platforms.
Implementation Strategies for creating a Sustainable xAPI Data Strategy (Managing Learning Data – xAPI Essentials and Strategies track)
Florian Tolk, ADL & Elizabeth A. Bradley, Liz Bradley Art & Design
Monday, Nov. 27 | 10:30-Noon EST
DoD organizations have their own challenges when implementing xAPI. Attendees will work through different use-cases to show the value of an xAPI data strategy. Attendees will gain actionable knowledge about how to use xAPI profiles to improve organizational insights.
Managing Learning Resources through use of Metadata Standards (Intersection of Learning Engineering and Data track)
Andy Johnson, ADL & Phil Barker, Cetis LLP
Monday, Nov. 27 | 10:30-Noon EST
This tutorial will describe the learning ecosystem that can be created by metadata and how current standards can be leveraged for success. Specific use cases that can be met through the use of metadata will be described and solutions presented.
Creating a Data Strategy and Learning Analytics (Managing Learning Data – xAPI Essentials and Strategies track)
Jonathan Poltrack & Rob Chadwick, Veracity
Monday, Nov. 27 | 12:45-2:15PM EST
This tutorial provides a comprehensive overview of designing and implementing an effective data strategy for learning analytics. Participants will gain knowledge and skills necessary to document algorithms, metrics, and visualization requirements to create effective analytics.
Using Biometrics to Evaluate the Efficacy of Virtual Reality Learning Environments Through the Detection of Awe (Medical-ish)
Christopher Yockey, 775 Test Squadron
Tuesday, Nov. 28 | 4-4:30PM EST
This paper explores the possibility of using biometric data to objectively assess a virtual reality learning environment’s ability to encourage positive learning outcomes. It discusses the importance of immersion and presence in learning.
I/ITSEC is always packed full of interesting sessions. In between all of these learning opportunities, Chris Tompkins, Cameron Gray and Brian are looking forward to catching up with our friends working in the defense sector. Want to chat in person? Schedule a time to meet with them during I/ITSEC.
