MindGym helps companies deliver business performance, using behavioural science to change the way people think, feel and act at work. The MindGym team knows that great eLearning content can be extremely powerful, especially when it’s provided at the right time for the learner. They work with roughly 55% of the S&P 500 and a little over 60% of the FTSE 100 with their training – or “e-workouts” – reaching over 4 million participants in 90 different countries.

The challenge

MindGym’s content is a competitive advantage—so protecting it was non-negotiable. Before implementing Rustici Software products, the only way they had to distribute content was to email the file and all of its contents to the customer. They essentially had to surrender any protections and security that maintained control of their IP. Even with signed contracts in place, they had no way to know how and if their customers were still using their training after the end of the contract. With clients having full access to their e-workouts, this unfortunately led to fewer contract renewals in some cases and impacted the business.

To gain control over their IP training courses, MindGym started out as a SCORM Cloud customer in 2017. But as their client base and reach grew, new concerns also arose. One was that they often added useful external resource links into the content, but if those links changed, it was outside of their control, and the e-workout was essentially broken across numerous customers.

MindGym needed a more robust way to distribute training to their millions of learners where they are, enforce licensing, and have the ability to seamlessly make content updates without disrupting their customers. Luckily, Rustici Software products are designed to scale and grow with customers to meet their evolving needs.

The solution

When determining what was the best solution going forward, MindGym considered building their own content distribution tool, but the cost and time to build can be a lot. Since they already had a trusted partnership with Rustici Software, the teams worked together to best solve MindGym’s content distribution concerns.

Maintaining control over proprietary training licenses
With Content Controller, MindGym retains all of their intellectual property, and their customers are able to launch and track in their own LMS. Once they had the ability to remove access after contract completion, their customers realized how much they truly needed and valued MindGym’s content.

Mass updating and version control across clients
Previously when MindGym had to make content updates, it was a manual process across customers. Content Controller unlocked the power for them to make updates – like fixing bugs or typos – to their courses one time and then all of their customers have access to the latest version.

It means every client has the best version of our content—continuously.

Single source of truth for providing content to customers
MindGym now uploads all of their content in a central training repository, Content Controller, and then assigns their e-workouts to customers on a client-level basis based on their license agreement. They turned what used to be an hours-long process into minutes and a few clicks.

Easily supplying content in multiple languages
With Content Controller’s Equivalents function, MindGym provides one course file that contains multiple different languages. The end user simply opens the course on their own platform and chooses the language they want to take the training in. For LMS admins, they now only have one course to manage instead of a course file for every language provided.

Opening up a larger customer base
With Content Controller, MindGym is able to host their data in the United Kingdom. This opened up conversations with government clients who prefer or require data to be hosted in the UK. Being able to tell them that the data will be stored on-shore has made those conversations much easier.
