CMR Institute’s content library spans everything from market access to leadership development, ensuring teams across all roles stay ready for what’s next. CMR’s learning solutions minimize downtime, reduce costs, integrate into your learning ecosystem and scale easily, so teams can keep learning without missing a beat.
CMR Institute needed a modern, central hub to manage hundreds of client libraries and update their ever-expanding course library in order to maintain efficiency and protect its core intellectual property.
The challenge
While transitioning to providing online learning was necessary, managing a vast content library and hundreds of client libraries simultaneously became a significant and additional workflow.
Supporting pharmaceutical companies, CMR Institute’s courseware requires regular content updates due to the market landscape and regulatory changes. To manage the updated file versions, they originally used SCORM Cloud to help with some of these administrative burdens. As both the number of libraries and course content grew, they realized they needed a new solution to match their accelerated trajectory while maintaining existing resources. They had reached a point where manual tasks, such as managing independent Realms and updating course versions in SCORM Cloud, required Sam Harrison, Business Technology Strategist, to dedicate up to 50% of his work week. Their team needed a more scalable solution that cut down on administrative time and tasks.
Being a customer already, they turned to Rustici’s support team to find a solution that would automate routine tasks, provide more controls to protect their valuable intellectual property, handle content licensing, allow for content to be launched without an LMS and facilitate rapid, seamless updates for their clients.
The solution
With help from the support team, CMR Institute chose to transition from SCORM Cloud to Rustici Software’s Content Controller to establish a single point of truth for all content delivery and better match their growth at scale. This shift centralized content management, leading to immediate and dramatic improvements in administrative efficiency.
CMR Institute also uses Content Controller Launcher, which allows them to use Launcher Links to deliver their training content to customers without a SCORM-compliant LMS. It also allowed them to build a custom SSO integration and create a new customer pipeline. Launcher solved a major integration challenge and provided a scalable solution for new clients.
“We’re able to do even more now with Content Controller. We’re a small team and now a lot of the admin work has been automated. Which means we can invest our time in strategic tasks rather than just keeping up with operational demands.”
The benefits
Effortless and rapid content updates
Most of CMR Institute’s courses require regular, cyclical updates. Content Controller eliminated the need for manual deletion and re-uploading of courses for each course and library. Clients upload content once, and all future updates are automatically delivered. This allows them to rapidly update time-sensitive content, such as changes to government regulations, and republish them in as little as an hour.
Massive time savings and strategic focus
Content Controller’s reduced the time required to manage the content library from hours to minutes. This freed up the team to move beyond administrative tasks to focusing on strategic planning, future product development and building new applications, like a scalable SSO connector with Launcher.
Robust intellectual property protection and reporting
Content Controller provides the necessary controls to protect their intellectual property (IP), including the ability to confidently control and revoke access to courses once a client contract ends. They are now able to run reports to monitor usage and begin measuring learning impact.
Launching content without an LMS
CMR Institute can ensure their content is accessible exactly where its clients need it, even without an LMS. With Content Controller Launcher, CMR Institute is able to provide access to customers without their own platform, roughly 40% of their customer base.
The results
The transition provided immediate operational wins.
- Previously, uploading 300+ courses into a standalone Realm could take a full day; with Content Controller, their entire library can be provided in under an hour via a download link for dispatch files.
- Enabled launching content without an LMS and opened up a pipeline of new customers.
- Facilitated the ability to rapidly update compliance-critical content within hours of a regulation change.
- New client onboarding, support and administration support has reduced from hours to minutes.
- Their support ticket volume has been reduced due to support from the Rustici team and the reliability of Content Controller.
- Gained visibility into and control over courses that are taken within 3rd party client LMSs in order to troubleshoot and implement fixes in the background without customers needing to reupload the course files.
“Our clients typically have a separate workstream for content integration, with long processes from some vendors. With our solution, we can fulfill their content needs with minimal work required on their end and within hours or days rather than weeks.”
