Sample customer support inquiry
Rustici Support,
We love the new functionality in SCORM Cloud that allows us the ability to import pdfs and videos directly into SCORM Cloud without having to wrap that content with a learning standard beforehand. We’ve already used it, but want to know if that can be extended to other formats? What we are looking for is the ability to directly import Powerpoint presentations. Is this something you can do?
Thanks,
Joe Cloud User
Helpful information and context
Historically, we have only allowed content to be imported into SCORM Cloud that is wrapped with a specific learning standard beforehand (SCORM, AICC, xAPI or cmi5). This means a video or pdf-based course would need to be run through an authoring tool, or have a developer wrap it with the learning standard prior to us being able to play it.
In the summer of 2020, we added the ability to import mp4 video files and pdfs directly into SCORM Cloud, so that you can assign those assets directly to learners as a course. On the backend, we put a wrapper around the file so we are able to track things like bookmarks, completion, and time in training.
Now the answer to the person’s question is really that there isn’t a reason why we couldn’t do this. It would just require development work to include a Powerpoint viewer into SCORM Cloud, and, candidly, the SCORM Cloud team’s dance card is quite full as far as feature requests are concerned. So it’s something we might do in the future, but is not currently on a priority list.
The question for you is, how would you approach this with them? What would be your answer to their feature request based on the details we’ve provided?
